Nursery light fixtures are both beautiful and practical. There’s something about an overhead ceiling light that can completely transform the look and feel of a space. According to HGTV, “bedroom lighting should create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere using soft, flattering ambient light while providing bright spots in the places where they are needed.” These same interior design principles can apply to a baby nursery.
Choosing a Nursery Light Fixture
There are 3 key things to consider when choosing a nursery light fixture:
1. Ambiance
The light that you choose will have a big impact on the room's ambiance. Lights that have beads or rattan will give off soft, shadowy lighting whereas those with glass will give off glowy, reflective lighting. The lightbulb you use for lights that are open is important to ensure that it is not too harsh or bright in the room.
2. Height
Remember to take into consideration your ceiling height when you are choosing a nursery light. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to rock your crying baby and hitting your head on a light! Or even worse, trying to quietly sneak out of the room and waking them up. For this reason, we recommend a flush mount light or adjustable chandelier.
3. Aesthetics
Light fixtures are typically in the center of the room and can be one of the first things our eyes are drawn to. They are a great opportunity to incorporate another element that complements your existing style or nursery theme. Classic? Glam? Rustic? Vintage? Boho? Retro? There are many great options to choose from in all different price ranges! Below we've created a mood board with some of our favorites.
